The New Women’s Erotica – What Is That?

If you’re trying to understand what’s being called the new women’s erotica, think of Fifty Shades of Grey. These are books that are a lot like typical romance novels. They’re filled with their share of passion and romance and hot steamy sex. The big difference is that these books seem to strike a deeper cord with women and resonate on many levels. As a woman, I find these stories and the relationships they describe more realistic and accessible.

I know many people are turned off by Fifty Shades of Grey saying it is not great writing. If you want true literary fiction, read Lady Chatterley’s Lover (Bantam Classics). E.L. James is no D.H. Lawrence. On the other hand, she has made Time magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World.

The women’s romance erotica of today is about finding a really good fun read that might just put you in the mood. You may like how James writes or you may not. In the erotic romance genre, some books are better written than others. I will be reviewing all the books recommended here on www.ShadesofMomma.com and for now I am only sharing the books that I like.

Lately, studies show that men are more visually stimulated. On the other hand, women are more literary. We get turned on by words and erotic stories.

Women want both emotions and sex. We prefer multi-dimensional real humans to scatter-brained sex objects. Characters must think and feel. We’re interested in love and lust.

Erotica has been around for many years. Probably the most famous work in this genre is the classic The Story of O. If you’re just getting started, this is a great read if you are ok with bdsm. It’s set in the early nineteenth century. O is a French woman who falls in love with Rene. In her search for love she gets sent to the Chateau for education about love and submission. This disturbing and powerful story serves as the precursor to all these new books like Fifty Shades of Grey.

For a mom with a hectic schedule getting in the mood for sex can sometimes be a daunting task. We need to be able to shut off all the stuff swirling around in our heads. That nagging voice that keeps asking about what’s planned for tomorrow. Who is driving? Is the lunch packed? What do I need to pick up at the market?

On top of that, many of us are also working outside the home. What time is the meeting? Is the proposal ready for that client? No wonder women are more prone to distraction than men. We’ve got so much stuff moving around in our heads. How do we shut it down and get ready for a hot and juicy time with hubby?

With all the moms out there buying up copies of Fifty Shades of Grey it looks as though erotic romance can certainly help a woman keep her mind on sex. That goes double for the busy ones and who isn’t?
